The Skyhorse Collection will ultimately consist of at least 10 full saddle sets. Each set will include a saddle, bridle, bit, reins, breast collar, blanket,
a hand-carved leather portfolio of the saddle illustrating it's history and construction, and a self-lighted saddle stand. Each of saddle will be offered in a limited edition of three.
Currently in the collection:
Lisa and Loren will retain the first artist's proof, numbers one and two will be available by custom comission.
When the collection of all the artist's proofs is complete, it will tour museums and galleries around the world.
This calibre of saddle is unique in contemporary saddle making. Not since Edward Bohlin, in the 1920's through 1940s, have saddles of this magnatude and significance been built.
Lisa and Loren still create these unique pieces by their own hand. This adds to the exclusivity of the work.
In this collection we give ourselves the freedom to create anything without restrictions--designs that challenge us, inspire us, move us.
Our collection idea was inspired when we were given the honor of building a saddle for the Mort Fleischer collection - one of the premier private
saddle collections in the world.
Our challenge was to build a modern saddle with the flavor of the old classics, yet incorporating our look and Mr. Fleischer's personal marks. To
get us in the right mood, we were allowed into his private collection and got to pour over his masterpieces. We returned to our shop rearing to go. With the help of our old friend and master
jeweler Jeff Georgantes we created a saddle we were most proud of, and every stitch, every cut, every hammer stroke was joyful for us. We delivered the saddle personally and had the
honor of seeing it displayed in the Fleischer living room, side by side with the finest saddle in his collection, a Coenen silver parade saddle set. After that we realized we had to continue on this path.
